CORE MESSAGE OF CHRISTIANITY - CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS

The core message of Christianity, rightly highlighted at Easter, is that Jesus Christ died for our sins.

The Apostle Paul affirmed to the Christian church in Rome in the mid-1st century AD: 'You see, just at the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us' (Romans 5v6-8 - NIV).

Communicating the seriousness of sin is hard in our society because we tend to see sin as trivial. Diet regimes talk about allowing so many 'sins' a day. So sin has been redefined to a permissible level - it's that extra piece of chocolate cake you probably shouldn't have but hey! you're allowed five sins a day.

According to the Bible, sin is very serious because it's humanity throwing off the rightful authority of God. It's us arrogantly thinking we can get along without God's rule. All the evils in our world that we hear about in our media day in day out stem from that underlying human refusal to obey the true God who made us and to whom we are accountable.

Until we understand how serious sin is, we cannot graps the wonder of God's forgiveness of our sins through the death of his Son Jesus Christ on the Cross. You are warmly invited to our Easter services to hear more about the amazing news that Christ died for our sins.
