The governing body of the Parish Church of the Ascension is our Parochial Church Council. This is usually chaired by our vicar and consists of members of the church family elected by our Annual Parochial Church Meeting. Every person on the electoral roll of the Parish Church is entitled to vote at the APCM. Our churchwardens are elected by the annual Vestry Meeting just before the APCM. Resident members of the parish who are on the local government electoral register are entitled to vote at the Vestry Meeting.
Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals
Baptism is for those residents of our parish who are in a position to make clearly understood, public promises of Christian faith and commitment on behalf of themselves and/or their children. Weddings are available to couples if the bride or bridegroom is resident in the parish or has a valid connection with the parish church, irrespective of whether they are regular members of a Christian church. Similarly, every deceased person who has been resident in the parish, irrespective of whether they were members of the church, is entitled to a funeral service conducted by the vicar or licensed person.
